Leonay Golf Club’s Encourage Shield team has posted a victory in the opening match of the season.

Lakeside Green’s late inclusion in the group meant the division one schedule for the competition was redrawn, and Leonay played Wentworth Falls on Sunday, October 8 rather than having a bye.

The Leonay team posted a 4-2 victory against Wentworth Falls, with wins recorded by Coby Carruthers, Ben Crilley and Eric Summers.

Kyle Homan and Jed Drew both had halves in what was Drew’s first-ever Pennants game, while Zachary Lange lost 2-1.

Summers’ victory followed on from his runaway win in the September 29 Stonecutters Ridge Junior Classic, and his Junior Monthly Medal win on Saturday, October 7.

The team is now due to face Lynwood Golf Club on Sunday, October 15.

In Leonay Golf Club’s seniors news, the Gibson Shield Pennant team has won their semi-final against Bexley 2-1.

Trevor Day and Warwick Chin-Nam won 6-5, Ian Gribble and Marc Vanderham won 3-2 and Paul Latimer and Jack Mallard lost 2-1.

The team is now due to play in the grand final at 10am on Sunday, October 15 at Twin Creeks Golf and Country Club.
