Leonay junior Eric Summers has stamped his authority on the Stonecutters Ridge Junior Classic with a runaway six-shot victory.

Fifty-six highly-talented junior golfers from the Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation teed off at the Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club on September 29 for the Classic, with Leonay players Summers, Coby Carruthers, Ben Crilley and Zachary Lange among the strong field.

Summers was simply unbeatable on the day, scorching around the demanding layout with a stroke round of 77, just five shots over par.

Summers  – a member of the Leonay Encourage Shield Junior Pennant team –  played off a handicap of 16 on the day and was just two shots over par late in his round.

A triple bogey on the 16th hole could have derailed his tournament but the Leonay youngster shook off the one-hole aberration to close with back-to-back pars and the six-shot victory.

Carruthers was the next best of the Leonay players, finishing in 21st spot with a nett score of 74, whilst Crilley was 27th with a nett score of 79.

Players were aged between eight and 18, with an astonishing 31 of those players on single figure handicaps. The statistics prove the enormous depth of talent coming up through the junior ranks of NSW Golf.
