Forget the Logies - the 2017 Penrith Business Awards are coming to town

Forget the Logies – the Penrith City Local Business Awards is the night of nights for those who provide the community with goods and services for a living.

The Penrith City Local Business Awards, now in its 26th year, is an opportunity for members of the community to recognise businesses that provide outstanding goods and services.

Precedent Productions managing director Steve Loe started presenting awards for businesses in 1985 to recognise the efforts of business owners and their staff.

“My parents were business people, and I grew up helping behind the scenes, so I saw first-hand how hard they worked,” he said. “I always thought that they and other business people deserved to be rewarded in public for their hard work and dedication just as much as any actor who receives a Logie.”

Customers nominate and vote for businesses in industry categories, with the winners then eligible to be chosen as the overall Business of the Year.

“A complete surprise,” is how Mike Murray of ACR Business Systems describes being named the 2016 Local Business Awards Business of the Year winner.

“2016 was the first time we participated in the Local Business Awards,” he said. “On July 1 last year ACR entered its 30th year of business, so we entered the awards as part of the celebrations that would continue throughout the whole of our 30th year.

“It was a complete surprise when we won the Specialised Business category in the awards. My belief was that ACR, along with all the businesses there on the night, had all won in their own right, by virtue of the fact that we had all earned our place as finalists.

“Prior to the night of the awards I wasn’t even aware that there was a Business of the Year award, and so we were obviously all shocked when it was announced that ACR had won that also.

“My advice to any small business owner who’s contemplating whether they should enter the local business awards is just do it. You will be in a circle of winners just by being there.”

The Penrith City Local Business Awards are made possible by the ongoing support of major sponsors NOVA Employment and Penrith Panthers, and support sponsors, Westfield Penrith, Nepean Regional Security, Nepean Village, Lennox Village, Southlands Shopping Centre, BizCover, Vintage FM and Penrith Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Members of the community can nominate their favourite local businesses by visiting the awards’ website www.thebusinessawards.com. Alternatively, a copy of the nomination coupon is available in the Penrith City Gazette.

Everyone who nominates a business will be in the running to win a GoPro Hero5 Black.

Nominations close on August 1, with winners announced on September 27 at Panthers Leagues Club.

The Gazette will provide weekly updates on the progress of the program, and will also run a special finalists feature and winners feature.
