Man armed with hammer, knives, scissors arrested in Penrith CBD

A man armed with a hammer, knives and scissors has been arrested at gunpoint in Penrith's CBD.

Police received a number of calls in relation to a man walking along Station Street and High Street carrying knives and a hammer about 10.30am on Friday, March 17, a Penrith police spokesman said.

“Police arrived on the scene within minutes and observed a 46-year-old Penrith man holding a hammer, a knife and scissors, and waving them around,” the spokesman said.

“The man was arrested at gunpoint and taken to Penrith police station.”

The man was interviewed by police and charged with being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence. He was refused bail and appeared in Penrith Local Court on March 20.
