Penrith City Council and Penrith Multicultural Interagency will host a Harmony Day event at The Mondo on March 22.
Penrith Mayor Cr John Thain said council staff and members of the Interagency would lead a walk through the CBD, as a show of “inclusiveness, community and friendship”.
“The walk will start at 12 noon, and will be followed by a light lunch and entertainment, back at the Mondo,” he said in statement.
“Our community is strengthened through our diversity. We have so many wonderful events, groups and initiatives that contribute to our City and enhance our daily life.
“Penrith is a vibrant community because of our many identities and Harmony Day is an opportunity to celebrate this diversity.”
Harmony Day is a national initiative coinciding with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
Orange is the colour of Harmony Day, as it represents meaningful conversation, freedom of ideas and mutual respect. Participants are encouraging to don something orange and head to the Mondo for an afternoon of celebration.
