FOR a gymnast, Jack Sweeney makes a pretty handy diver.
And for a diver, Jack makes a pretty handy gymnast.
So handy he's a champion in both related but separate sports.
The 12-year-old has won the School Sport Australia national diving title in the 13/14 years synchronised event and silver in the 13-years springboard event.
What makes this remarkable is that the Westfields Sports High School student dives in his spare time.
Jack also won two gold medals at the Australian artistic gymnastics championships last year.
"A teacher from my primary school said I should give diving a go because of my results in gymnastics," Jack said.
"My gymnastics certainly helps with my diving and I enjoy somersaulting and twisting off the boards."
He's got the double: NSW CHS diving champion and NSW CHS gymnastics champion.
But despite his versatility, Jack said gymnastics would always be his first love and his great dream was the Olympics.
Here's the most remarkable thing.
He was the victim of a savage-dog attack when 10 and required plastic surgery and a skin graft.
There's no other way to say it: the kid's got guts.
