THE Nepean Football Club under-15s representative team travelled to Glen Willow Stadium in Mudgee on Sunday to play in the Football NSW Regional League grand final against the Western NSW Mariners.
The match was the finalists' fourth meeting this year and the Nepean side was confident of adding to their unbeaten record against the Mariners in 2013.
Both sides came through tough semi-finals last week at Cook Park.
As Regional League North Conference Premiers Nepean needed extra time to get past Southern Districts, while the Mariners edged South Conferences' best Football South Coast in penalties.
It was a perfect day for football in Mudgee. Nepean made a strong start and after some near misses got on the scoresheet late in the first half through a Hayden Lane header, following from some great build-up play.
Mariners threw everything at Nepean in the second half but the boys held out in tense few final minutes to become Nepean FC's first competition winners in their short history, taking home both the Premiership and Championship trophies.
