Maralyn Kastel become self-employed in 1990 and established The Detail Devils in 2003.
She left England for Australian back in the '80s and has lived in Penrith for more than 30 years.
As a work health and safety specialist, she provides small- to medium-sized businesses with a software program she developed herself as well as consultancy services which include preparation of tenders, accreditations and workplace inspections.
Ms Kastel said her program set her company apart from the rest.
"Not one of our clients has ever received a WorkCover fine since they have been using our programs — even though some of them have had accidents," she said.
She employs two part-time staff.
Ms Kastel said working for herself had given her a much more flexible lifestyle and meant "no more commuting hassles".
She loves the fact that her business enables her to respond to her clients' individual needs.
And what does she like about doing business in Penrith?
"We have a vibrant and dynamic business community and business owners are always willing to share," Ms Kastel said.
"It's a very friendly place to do business."
