THE Penrith copywriting agency WriteCopy owner, Melinda Leyshon, shared her thoughts about communication strategies at a NSW Local Government Managers' conference last week.
"I talked about the way local government can communicate with different audiences through different mediums; emails, newsletters, websites and so on," Mrs Leyshon said.
"I focused on the way readers' eyes travel across a screen and the places on the screen they concentrate on."
She said it was important to draw people's attention in the first sentence before going into more detail.
Mrs Leyshon said it was a pleasure to talk about publicity and public relations because that was her first love.
She jointly operates the Penrith auto repair business, Production Automotive, with her husband Brendon.
"That business has been going so well I was able to go back to writing and copywriting," Mrs Leyshon said.
"I started WriteCopy last September. I'll never be a mechanic, but I can apply my writing skills."
She was pleased with her address to the conference and said she would like to do something similar in future.
"The organisers said they liked it too," she said. "It was a great opportunity."
