POWERBOAT racer Darryl Quinn of Glenmore Park was the man to beat at the Windsor Spectacular over the weekend — and not even an engine malfunction could stop him from winning a championship.
Driving Bad Influence, Quinn — nicknamed Assassin — won three out of five races.
Despite a disappointing loss in his last race, he was 2013 Hi Tech Oils Blown Lites series champion.
"In our last race of the Blown Lites we were quick off the start but a lifter in the motor and a rocker on cylinder No 4 broke, which left us running on seven cylinders," Quinn said.
"We just couldn't compete against the other boats which were running on eight cylinders."
Though he missed out on some prestigious races, Quinn was still satisfied with a championship win.
"We had the quickest time of the whole weekend and were invited to race in the Cross Invitational and King of the River but due to mechanical problems we couldn't enter them," he said.
"It's disappointing considering we would have been the defending champions of both those events but it's always nice to win races — and to top it off with the final championship is really satisfying."
