25,000 expected in Penrith for Defqon.1

EMERGING producers will live their dreams this Saturday and perform their own hardstyle hits for 25,000 Defqon.1 Australian music festival-goers.

This year the hardstyle music festival features 100 acts across seven stages at the Regatta Centre.

Acts were selected by Q-dance — the Defqon.1 Australia organisers — based on their music production skills and entertainment value.

Q-dance has also helped up-and-coming artists make their international debut on the main stage at Europe's popular hardstyle festival, Defqon.1 NL, in the Netherlands.

This year saw 12 Australian artists including the Toneshifterz and the Kamikaze Deejays perform during the three-day festival for 50,000 people in July.

Jozzi Halloran from the DJ duo Kamikaze Deejays, said it was "incredible" to perform their own music in front of an international audience.

"Words cannot describe how amazing not only the festival is, but also the people, the country and the passion that exists for hardstyle over there," Ms Holloran said.

"Flying the Australian flag high behind the decks, feeling the positive energy build and build in the stage arena and hearing the crowd sing along with us to our own tracks was absolutely mind- blowing — complete sensory overload."

For the past four years, Q-dance has also provided budding producers with the chance to kick-start their careers through the producers' competition — the winner performing at Defqon.1 Festival Australia on the purple stage.

This year's competition winner is hardstyle act Scraps of Insanity.

Q-dance launched a new monthly radio show, Down Underground, on the Q-dance internet radio station which has a global audience average of 10,000.

The show is dedicated to showcasing Australian talent across the globe, while promoting the Australian hardstyle movement.

Q-dance also has a record label, which features tracks by Australia's own Audiofreq, Dillytek and The Strangerz.
