A Sydney scout leader has been released on bail after allegedly using social media to groom a 13-year-old girl for sex.
Police last month received a tip that a man was allegedly communicating inappropriately with a teenage girl on social media and launched an investigation into his online activity.
Officers searched his Kingsford home on Monday, seizing items for examination. The 60-year-old attended Auburn police station on Friday and was charged with using a carriage service to procure a child under 16 years for sexual activity.
He was granted conditional bail to face Burwood Local Court on October 1.
Police said parents should talk to their children about the dangers associated with online chat and urged children to tell their parents or another adult about any contact that makes them feel uncomfortable.
