Hammer falls for auctioneers

NOVICE auctioneers will hone their real estate skills in a competition next month.

Each year the Real Estate Institute runs the competition to give entrants a chance to try their hand at auctioneering, without having to sell a property.

Entrants need to find an item — bottle of wine, sports memorabilia, weekend away or similar — that they will auction to agents, the public and judges.

The winner is determined on confidence, descriptive ability, bidding control and use of the gavel. Proceeds from the sales are donated to charities which this year will be Niccups, Little Wings and Greystanes Disability Service.

The competition will cover the Real Estate Institute division of Nepean, Hawkesbury and the Blue Mountains.

To join the fun and help support these charities, businesses can book a table for their staff: $440 for a table of eight for the auction and the two-course meal.

Individual tickets are $55.

Details: Penrith Golf Club, Tuesday, September 10, 6.30pm.

Bookings: Peter Prouzos 0427 458 176.
