Thieves not only break hearts but boot dog

THIEVES stole precious memories from Yellow Rock couple Mark and Marion McNicol when they burgled their home on November 26.

"These mongrels took a purse containing items from our dead son," Mr McNicol said.

Luke McNicol died, aged only 4½ months, 28 years ago.

He was born with Cornelia de Lange syndrome (also known as Amsterdam dwarfism).

"I had the purse specially made for Marion; it has a Medicare card with Luke's name on it and a dried-up flower from his funeral," Mr McNicol said.

"My wife carried these little bits and pieces to remember him by. She's gutted — just devastated."

He said the burglars also kicked their labrador, Buddy.

"He was passing blood for a while, but he's OK now," Mr McNicol said. "That's what hurts too; they're absolute grubs. Buddy's a beautiful-natured animal; he would have gone up to them for a pat and got a kicking."

The burglars also stole $1500 worth of Kmart vouchers, some cash and equipment.

Mr McNicol said that was nothing to the hurt they suffered losing their mementoes of Luke.

"He was so young when he died that what we had to remember him by was so little," he said. "It's so important we get that back."

Springwood police released some CCTV photos of people who may be able to assist them with inquiries in relation to this matter.

If you can help identify these people or have any information about the break-in contact Springwood police on 4751 0299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
