Rare treat for bird lovers

BERKSHIRE Park Bird Farm is far from your ordinary pet store.

At the bird farm you will find a large range of exotic and native birds (for which you require a licence to keep), finches, canaries, budgies, exotic parrots, hand raised pet birds, ducks, chickens, peacocks, quails and many more bird species.

The farm also sells creepy-crawlies including bird eating spiders, scorpions, hermit crabs, stick insects, roaches and beetles.

Indian Palm Squirrels are also available from the bird farm.

Manager of Berkshire Park Bird Farm, Chris Hibbard said the business started 27 years ago solely based on breeding and selling birds.

"As the industry has changed, we have too," Mr Hibbard said.

"We are the only privately licensed business in Australia able to sell Indian Palm Squirrels."

At Berkshire Park Bird Farm you can also find many pet related products, including products for household pets to exotic creatures.

On Saturday, December 8 Berkshire Park Bird Farm will hold a Galatiel Day, to celebrate and show visitors a rare and unusual bird called the Galatiel.

The Galatiel is a galah cross cockatiel and will be on display, along with various hand raised birds and an owl.

"People should come out to experience something new and exciting. In fact it's so rare you may never get to see another one again," Mr Hibbard said.

"There will also be a sausage sizzle and a cupcake stall."

Owner of the Galatiel, Luke Stone, said it was rare treat to see a bird of this type.

"I don't think there are many around as they have never been advertised," Mr Stone said.

Mr Stone said he never intended to breed a cockatiel with a galah.

"When they paired up, I thought I would leave them together," he said.

"Hopefully we can produce some more.

"They seem like they will breed again this year."

For all of your pet care needs, Berkshire Park Farm is sure to have the product you need.
